You may recall back in May that I told you that brothers Fred and Stewart Laing were parting ways and that Fred Laing was taking total control of Douglas Laing & Co.

Well Fred has been busy behind the scenes since then developing a new Single Cask Single Malt whisky range named Douglas Laing Old Particular. This will now be Douglas Laings core range and the start of a new era for the company.the first batch to be released in the new range includes malts distilled at Bowmore, and rarely seen Caperdonich and rare and very sought after Port Ellen distilleries to name but a few.

The Old Malt Cask range which is now in the hands of Freds brother Stewart was bottled at 50% abv but the new Douglas Laing Old Particular range will be bottled at cask or natural strength and thereafter 48.4% for the bottlings aged to 18 years and 51.5% for 19 and over.

Great to see another option on the shelves of the whisky shops and I will look forward to seeing what Fred and his team at DL release to entertain us.

Some more info here on the new Douglas Laing Old Particular single cask single malt whisky range:

Hopefully the younger Old Particular bottlings will have a drinkable price tag.

Sounds like this will be a positive influence on the availability of interesting drams. Laing
has also done well in the past with offerings prior to the brothers split.

Yes another independent single cask bottling is always welcome. As with all indie bottlings there are hits and misses but the guys at DL have been pretty good at cask selection in the past in my experience and what i know of the team Fred has got that shouldnt have changed. I would guess that they would have made sure everything in this first batch of releases will be extra special or should i say "Particularly" special. Probably be worth while seeking out a bottle when they hit the shops.
