| I have had the pleasure of both so given the choice for drinking I would opt for the Ardbeg 1978 and for collecting/investment again the 1978 as it seems to fetch a bit more at auction. Having said that the Ardbeg 1977 is excellent also and can still be picked up at a decent price at auction. |

The way Ardbeg goes at auction these days either would be a good buy, short term increase in value would be minimal as they have been around a few years now but tuck them away for a few years and they should prove to be very good buys i would think.
I believe there were a few releases of the Ardbeg 1978, one in 1997, 1998 and 1999 and all were excellent i would rate one above the other. There was also a few releases of the 1977 between 2001 and 2004 and again all were good and i wouldnt have rated one above the other. |

Just for information about the 78 at 42.4 abv.
There were only 204 bottles released apparently.
Its a keeper i think. |
