Here's a bit of a puzzle. I bought this expression of Jura this afternoon at an LCBO about an hour from here. Tje box is the standard Isle of Jura 16 Year Old Diurach's Own 43%abv with the expression written right on the box. However, when I took the bottle out of the box at home, the labeling just says Jura 16 and the specific expression "Diurach's Own" is nowhere on the bottle. This Jura expression available in the UK which I googled shows the labeling to include the words "Diurach's Own right on the bottle" but not mine. Though my box does have the expression on the label my box is different from the UK box in lay-out. I called the LCBO who put me on to Quality Control who gave me the phone number of the Jura agent who imported it to Ontario. She stated that often there is interplay between the Canadian Government, the LCBO and the importer which can result in labeling discrepancies during importation. I just find it very strange that the expression of a distillery would not be on the actual bottle but just on the box.

What's your opinion or knowledge in this area?

Also, what's the dram like?

Ooh I do like a good mystery. Sadly I'm no Shirlock on this one, but do keep us posted on how things unfold.

It sounds like you have a new box and old bottle, that would be my guess. Not sure how this would have happened. I suppose you could return it.

William. This was also my exact query to 2 different branches of the LCBO including Quality Control for LCBO. They forwarded me to the agent responsible for importing Jura into Canada. She indicated that the Canadian government determines what the final labeling will be and that in this case the label was simplified to Jura 16. She assured me that this was not an error but simply a labeling decision by the Govn't and the LCBO. The LCBO themselves went through 5 or 6 boxes and bottles while i was on the phone and all were exactly as mine. I guess I have to accept their answer but it still seems strange to me.

Hard to believe that they obsess to this level, the phrase 'job creation' comes to mind. Hey ho, suppose we need all the employment we can get these days. Confused

I concur Olie. Also, this expression in the UK is 40% abv. My bottle is 43%abv which is also interesting. The bottle has a label on the back- Imported by Whyte & Mackay (Americas) Limited out of North Miami Florida.

Quaich1, I have a bottle which i bought in Hamilton LCBO which states Jura 16 Year Old Diurach's Own on the box and bottle label. It is a far superior dram to the Jura Superstition and 10 year old buut it is bound to be as it is a big jump in age. And as Williams recent review of rare old Jura whisky tells us Jura ages well.
