To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth's Coronation The Macallan is releasing a limited edition commemorative bottling or I should really say pair of bottlings.

The Macallan Coronation is limited release which comprises of a specially designed box containing two 350ml bottles of single malt whisky. I fully expect that this unique pair of whiskies from The Macallan will become a rare collectors' item with only 1953 pairs of bottles being released for sale in the UK.

The two bottles each feature a different image of The Queen, one taken in 1953 by Cecil Beaton, with the other featuring an image taken in 2004 by Julian Calder, one of the world's most renowned portrait photographers.

The two bottles do not have an age statement. The Macallan Coronation Cecil Beaton was matured in American oak sherry seasoned casks, bottled at 58.1% ABV. The Macallan Coronation Julian Caulder was matured in Spanish sherry seasoned oak casks, bottled 55.7% ABV.

The 1953 bottles of The Macallan Coronation will be available from early next week from The Macallan Distillery Visitor Centre for collection only and online for UK customers at themacallan.com at a price of £350.

More info and a tasting note for the two whiskies here:

Very tempting as these Macallan releases do very well especially when only available in the UK.

Sounds like the Macallan Coronation Julian Caulder will be the older and heavier sherried between the 2, it certainly looks very dark.

Its easy done, after a few you decide it is a good idea to open one of the good bottles you have been saving, or is that just me Laughing

I am sure this will be a good investment as Macallams always are.

The Macallan Coronation bottle on the right which i think is the Julian Caulder is very very dark, i would imagine it has a big sherry influence, definitely one for the sherry heads.

I do like the idea of a pack with 2 half bottles of differnt malts, i wouldnt mind that idea catching on.

I agree James, it would be great if more whisky companies would offer some of the premium whiskies in half bottles.

Thanks for letting us know William, I have been on the phone to my brother in Scotland asking him to get a bottle for me when they release it next week. It will go nicely with my bottles of Macallan Royal Marriage and Macallan Jubilee

I have done that a few times in the past, opened one of the good ones when i have had a few, always seems like a brilliant idea at the time.

Cheers for the heads up William, this is the first i have heard the Macallan Coronation mentioned. I already have the Macallan Royal Marriage and Jubilee so the Macallan Coronation will complete my set.

£350 for the set, does this seem better value than the Jubilee.....time will tell but the Julian Caulder bottle looks far too tempting to open.

I will be buying a set as I have the Royal wedding 2011 & Jubilee.

I just wish they could have released this for £19.53
Very Happy
