I really enjoyed my evening at the Order of the Companions of the Quaich last night, the single malt scotch club I belong to, the Niagara-on-the-Lake Chapter.

The three single malts were:

Craigellachie The Cooper's Choice 8 year bottled in 2011, 46% abv, sherry butt. 800 bottles worldwide.

Jura Elixir 12 year. This is the 46% abv version finished in Spanish sherry wood and the 70cl bottle.

Glen Keith 18 Year by Berry Bros. & Rudd, single cask, cask strength at 54.4% abv, ex-boubon and American Oak wood.

I particularly liked the Jura Elixir at 46%abv which is offered in the UK only at 40abv. The Glen Keith is deceivingly fruity and mild on the nose and then goes for the juglar on the palate and finish, one powerful dram. The Craighellachie did have a lovely nose and nice finish.

My taste notes are now posted in the appropriate section of the Forum.

There were about 45 folks there last night, many of course in kilts and the piper was in rare form as the haggis was presented and the ode to the haggis belted out by a true Scot. Then of course the great jokes and comraderie and an exquisite meal. I always make a good plug for the Forum and more folks are tuning in to check it out.

That post had a long finish! Wink

Sounds like a great evening. The Glen Keith in particular intrigues me, I've never sampled this distillery. Last I heard it was being refurbished by Chivas, could be up and running by now for all I know.

Thanks Olie. I adjusted the literary "finish". Ha ha. Apart from this expression of Glen Keith, I've also had The Cooper's Choice Glen Keith 19 years, single bourbon hogshead 1993, 46% abv at a previous club tasting. Also quite stellar.

I think Glen Keith will be up an running later this year (according to what i have read). Both Glen Keith and Craigellachie are 2 whiskies that i am not very familiar with. I have had the Jura Elixir and it was a very enjoyable fruity spicy Jura, not pleased that others are getting a 46% version and Jura are giving the UK a 40% version, not impressed with that move by Jura Evil or Very Mad
