Just saw the unveiling of a number of single malt scotches now available in Ontario. The list is below and I would be interested in your general thoughts about them, the stars, the not so great, etc.

Oban Distiller's Edition 1995

The BenRiach Curiositas Peated 10 Year

Old Pulteney 12

Ledaig 10 Year

Bunnahabhain 12 Year

Glenfiddich Rich Oak 14 Year

Also, Poit Dhubh 8 Yr Gaelic Malt Scotch Whisky and Glenglassaugh Peated

Alll great drams in my opinion: The BenRiach Curiositas Peated 10, Old Pulteney 12, Ledaig 10, Bunnahabhain 12, Glenfiddich Rich Oak 14. Cant comment on the Oban Distiller's Edition as i havent tried it because i have never been impressed by the standard Oban 14 year old.

The star there for me is undoubtedly the Bunnahabhain 12. It's an outstanding whisky and I think you'll enjoy it a lot. From the others, I quite like the Old Pulteney 12 - it's got quite a distinctive style. The Ledaig 10 is good for an un-Islay peat fix. I never liked the Glenfiddich Rich Oak much, the nose is really interesting but I find the palate way too dry and weak.

Haven't tried the Oban or the Glenfiddich, but I have tried the rest. The Poit Dhubh was OK, but the others are all whiskies I will definitely buy again. The Bunnahabhain is one I really enjoy, but the one I'd go for first is the BenRiach Curiositas - this is a fantastic whisky to give to friends blind and listen to them swear must be an Islay whisky

The Bunna 12 and Ledaig 10 are both very good whiskies these days vastly improved on what they were a couple of years back when they increased the ABV to 46% and started bottling them non chill-filtered.

The Glenfiddich 14 Rich Oak is another great expression from the Glenfiddich, it was matured in normal fomer b ourbon cask for 14 years then finished for a short period in virgin European oak and new American oak which gives it a nice bit of zest and spice. Maybe not to everyones taste but i do like the Glenfiddich Rich Oak.

I love the OP12 such a good malt for the price assuming you're not paying too far far over the odds.

The Oban DE is very good though takes some getting used to as do all Obans IMO.

The Bunna 12 is another great malt for the price.

The Ledaig is so so for me, not bad but not in the class of the OP and Bunna.

The rich oak is nothing to write home about for me but then im not really a Fiddich fan.

The rest I've not tried

BenRiach Curiositas Peated 10 is very good IMO Definitely worth a try if you like the peated Islay whiskies, the difference here is it is a Speyside whisky but with with enough peat you would swear it was an Islay malt. Lovely whisky, if it is a good price and you like a peaty smoky whisky then go for it.
