Here are my taste notes for this copper colored beauty brought over to my home today by a good friend.
Bunnahabhain 37 Year, Malt Trust, Cask Strength 45.5%abv, cask#12423, bottle #154, Independent Bottling.

Neat-

Nose: Baked apples in syrup, ripe sweet plums, ripe papaya with internal peppery seeds, aged varnish (Rosewood lacquer box), peaches and cream corn, English toffee & butterscotch and Turkish delight; spicy orange peel (candied), olive oil, unroasted Brazil nut and pleasantly singed orange peel.

Palate: Spice, warming, cinnamon, mocha, oakiness, Turkish delight, smooth, fried bananas
(plantain).

Finish: Long, Swiss chocolate, espresso crema, oakiness, spice and hint of pepper.

This is a very complex and wonderfully balanced dram.

It is always good to get the chance to taste one of the extremely rare ones and i do have a soft spot for Bunnahabhain. I am not familiar with the Malt Trust, i would assume it is a independent bottler who perhaps only bottles whisky to be sold on your side of the pond.

I have heard of Malt Trust bottlings, i think you are right Blackadder, they are a North American based independent bottler/importer. Havent heard of them for quite some time so not sure if they are still bottling whisky. I will have a search around and if i find any info on Malt Trust whisky i will let you know.

William, my friend thought that Malt Trust had a relatively short life span as a company and was no longer in business. He mentioned that he won the bottle in a tasting event in the USA. Whatever else you can find out about Malt Trust would be most appreciated.
Very Happy

Murray i cant seem to find much about Malt Trust.

From what i can piece together the Malt Trust was formed in 2006/2007 by Miami, Florida based Joel Gosler, a former executive vice president and national sales manager for William Grant and Sons in the USA from 1963 to 2000.

In 2006/2007 Joel Gosler formed a new US import and marketing company called Kindred Spirits Inc. in a joint venture between Jerez-based sherry producer Bodegas Williams and Humbert, and creator of Martin Miller's gin, The Reformed Spirits Group.

Kindred Spirits Inc. was responsible for the sales and marketing of Gran Duque D'Alba brandy, Dry Sack sherry, Martin Miller's Gin, Triibe (a clear Celtic cream liqueur) and Malt Trust single barrel malt whisky.

I believe Malt Trust bottlings were older premium whiskies and all bottled at cask strength. Kindred Spirits Inc. is still around but there is no mention of Malt Trust on their web site.

Thanks William. You provide an insightful historical account of how Malt Trust fit into the equation. I appreciate it.
