Here are my taste notes from today for my very first dram of Caol Ila Distiller's Limited Edition-Double Matured, Moscatel Cask 1997.

Neat-

Nose: Turkish delight dipped in peat smoke, iodine, smoke house hues, licorice and anise plumes, parfume, cinnamon, heady and bold in an olfactory tuxedo; no workman's overall's here.

Palate: Oily, sugary peat, warming, black-ball candy and layers of licorice flavors.

Finish: Long, spice, peat rushes, strong black licorice, smokehouse flashbacks and hint of fine mint.

This is a lovely dram clearly influenced by the Moscatel finish. If it were a shoe it would be a fine Florsheim, not a loafer, desert or work boot. A classy dram for the single malt connoisseur.

Among the very best drams I've tasted this year!

I do like the Caol ila Distillers Edition also, next to the Lagavulin it would be my pick of diageos distillers edition

Sounds great! I've tried a few really good Caol Ilas recently. I don't know if that's indicative of a trend but, for me, it can often rival the Kildalton distilleries for value.

I have only had the Caol Ila Distillers Edition at tasting events and was impressed with it but have never gotten around to buying a bottle, your tasting note makes it very tempting.
