Suggestions for a single cask and cask strength whisky up to £80. Going to be placing an order soon. Looking at the laphroaig 16 by signatory and would like another to go with it. Preferably something peated but am open to all ideas.

Really depends where you are ordering it from and what's available I guess.
For Peaty you could try the Laphroig 10cs which is well within your budget, or the Ardbeg Ugidail which would give you a nice peat/sherry mix.
The Glenlivet Nadurra is excellent though not peated at all.
If you wanted sherreid you could go for the Glenfarclas 105 or the Abalour A'bundha
All of the above are excellent (though I haven't tried the Laphroig 10cs and it depends which release of the A'bundha you get).
For a little more than your quoted £80 you could go for the Black Art 3 which is excellent and one I'm currently enjoying (as in the bottle is opem, I'm not sat with one right now).
or again for slightly more than your £80 you could try the Octomore (5.1is the most recent) range, I beleive they are cask strength and have the most peaty whisky in the world tag.
Edit to add, you could also look at the Talisker 57 north, which should have a lower level of peat but again is regarded very highly. |

| The Whisky Exchange. I have an ooogie and a 57 degrees north and a nadurra. Im after a single cask whisky though. Probably have to be an independent bottler for my £80 but thats fine. |

Ah, sorry, I missed the part where you said single cask, and just read the cask strength bit! My bad!
It's difficult to recoment something sing cask wise as the very nature of these mean there are so few of them trying to recomend them becomes futile as there not around long enough.
I don't know where you are based, there may be some good specialist whisky shops near where you are. I did a visit to the Aberfeldy distillery a while ago, and they had a cask there where you could draw directly from the ask and bottle youself, write the lable etc etc that was around the £80 mark. So it really depends where you are based.
I'm also a member of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) which deals in only single cask, cask strength whisky, if these are an interest to you, it may be worth looking into that, again depending on where you are based, if you are in the Edinburgh or London regions you can visit SMWS venues and try to your hearts content, if not in those locations the website has details (www.smws.co.uk) and you can mail order directly from them, the darwback of this is you can't sample before you buy. Though this comes at a cost of gaining membership (about £100 for the first year which includes 4x 100ml sample bottles).
Not sure how helpful my rambling reply has actually been.
In short, sorry I can't recoment any single cask, cask strength whisky at any price other than that which is sold by the SMWS becasue it's been that long since I picked up a bottle from anywhere else. |

I thought that Douglas Laings Old Malt Cask Laphroaig 1996 15 year old Cask #No 7966 was outstanding. It is still available over at TWE priced £69.49, see HERE _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

| Go a little off field and try something a bit different. Have a look at Arran whiskies. Reasonable pricing and first class quality. You can get some superb single cask bottlings. |

Another interesting Isle of Arran is the Sleeping Warrior at 54.9% abv, 6000 bottles were available. I have an unopened one waiting in the cabinet for me.

I bought one of these because I loved the packaging. Does anybody do better packaging that Arran, for affordable whisky?
Later on was over on Arran with my sister's family and tried it at the Distillery ..........cracking dram, sherried, smooth and long, long aftertaste. Wish I'd now bought two... one to drink and one to keep! |
