Hi everyone
Just wondering what whisky software people are using or what way everyone keeps note of what they have in their collection?
I have had a quick google and most people just seem to be using a basic excel spreadsheet and i have found some programs can download but cant customize them very much.
I was looking to possibly develop a FREE to use website if anyone would be interested, firstly for my own collection and also others can add their collections also.
This would be safer than an exel spreadsheet as if your computer fails then you wont lose any information and its accessible from anywhere, even your mobile phone.
Fields i was thinking that should be added see below....
NAME
DISTILLERY
BOTTLER
COUNTRY
TYPE
AGE
DISTILLED DATE
BOTTLED DATE
STRENGTH
COLOUR
VOLUME
PURCHASE DATE
PURCHASE PRICE
SELLING DATE
SELLING PRICE
SWAPPED FOR DATE AND BOTTLE SWAPPED FOR
PURCHASE LOCATION
OPENED - YES / NO
Upload a picture of the bottle also.
All of the above would then be displayed good and searchable and can be edited from any pc / tablet or smartphone with internet access.
Lots of other features couild be added such as.....
- Making your list private or public for others to see collection.
- Can click on individual bottles in collection and allow others to offer swaps or money to buy.
Possibilities are unlimited really but just think that if nothing else can do this then would be easy for me to set this up and share for free with others.
Let me know if any other features people would want or if it sounds like something people would use.....
Thanks
Dale |

Just had a look at this. It seems absolutely rubbish. It doesn't hardly work and is not at all intuitive. One example, go to edit profile. Shows a blank avatar and no obvious place to click to change it. Another, go into "my collection" and it is of course empty with no link to "add bottle". Added to that the android app is over £3 with pretty naff recent reviews- 1 star so I don't think I will be using whiskybase
Regarding the OP I would like this idea but if you do it, a free android app would be excellent. It's a shame there isn't an app for this forum too while i think of it which i think limits the appeal |

I have checked out the whiskybase
it looks good but very complicated, just wanted something simpler that everyone can use and scottish also and not trying to sell you lots of bottles and all in euros!! |

I just use an excel spreadsheet saved at work so it's backed up.
I have the following fields. . .
Bottle (Nmae of bottle I.E. Ugidail)
Distillery
Age
ABV
Finish (Bourbon, Sherry, Port etc)
Region
Year of Issue
Batch / Bottle #
Country
Type (Single Malt, Single Cask etc)
Bottler (OB, SMWS etc)
and Contents (Open or Closed)
I find this does enough for me. |

It's a great idea but it's pretty easy and free to build a spreadsheet somewhere like Google Docs or Office Online, where you won't lose it and can access it from anywhere. However it's not the easiest solution if you wanted to add pics, etc so maybe the added value stuff like that is the way to go? _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."

| I am quite happy to use my own excel spreadsheet and to be honest wouldnt have much interest in posting my collection of whisky online and if i did i would have used whiskybase. Like most people i have a hard copy backup of important files so i will never loose my copy. |
