|
|
I was wondering what Forum members think about the investment value of this limited release The Glenlivet XXV ( Batch No. 0111B) in the heavy wooden box with certificate and phamphlet. I got it last weekend. The certificate has 3 signatures: Hamish Procotor, Bill Lamb and David Boyd. The bottle itself is signed by Master Distiller A.J. Winchester. It cost me $349 Canadian dollars or equivalent 220 British pounds. What's your 5 year forecast on this one? This is the most I have spent myself on a bottle. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

| The Glenlivet XXV is part of the Glenlivets core range so it will be available for the foreseeable future so i cant see it gain any value unless your particular batch was rated way above other batches or if it was discontinued and i cant see that happening. By all accounts it is a superb whisky. |

There are only 194 bottles left in all of Ontario of the 750 ml variety of this batch number, the only one available apparently here. People are snapping them up here and saving them. Batch numbers are quite important and the signatures on the certificate also provide variation as well. I would not be too fast to judge limited investment for this variety at all. It also comes in a signed and numbered wooden box that has been reinforced with limestone and brushed steel. I have high hopes for it as I do for the recently released Canadian Edition of the Glenfiddich Cask of Dreams which are also being put away by collectors and flying off the shelves. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I'm with Archer on this one - core range is core range. There will always be more ..... I wish you luck with your investment choices, but I never go for core range ...... unless I plan to drink!
Of course there are exceptions ... packaging changes and the like .... maybe the laph cask strength 001 will increase .... _________________ Talisker 18 - the rest are just details |

| Quaich1, with the tight government controlled set up for the sale of whisky in Ontario what is the secondary market set up for selling rare and collectable whisky. Do you have auctions where you can sell it? |

Hi Kenny. Your question is actually spot on. As far as I know, there isn't any secondary market other than the occasional auctions run by the LCBO and I have no information on how or even if a private person might get involved in selling through that modality. I have heard rumours of some private collectors trading bottles with other private collectors but again I have no first hand knowledge of this. I'm hoping in the years to come some type of approved and legal facility for private auctions or private sales might become available. If there is any now, I don't know about it. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I'm with the others on this but for a slightly different reason.
Collectable or not, this is one stunning dram of whisky, if I owned a bottle of it, I'd not be able to keep it for sell on purposes, it would have to be opened, honestly even if you make double your money in 5 years, you're still missing out on this fantastic whisky.
Open, savour, enjoy!

I noticed in the 2013 Whisky Bible, Jim Murray writes about The Glenlivet XXV: "One cask away from a massive score and a certain award". His review and rating of 91 was based on batch no. 50416. Maybe my bottle that recently became available here from Batch 0111B is that next step.

There is only one way to find out, and that way isn't keeping it in the hope of making a few $$$ |

You're probably right my friend. However, an exceptional bottle of single malt is sometimes like a red Ferrari, fun to polish and look at, dream of the possibilities before putting the pedal to the metal. The metaphor I believe works here. The reality of the situation is that dreaming of investment potential is just fun but ultimately the bottle will be part of my taste notes, but let's not rush it. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Hey Murray. Sorry to revive an old thread......but I just picked up the Last bottle of Glenlivet XXV today. The LCBO had been out of stock for sometime. I've been watching the app everyday. So yesterday, one come up available from a downtown LCBO, and I had it transferred to my local store.
It's Batch 0111B.......hard to believe I got this lucky. Can't wait to crack her. This will be my second bottle. |
