|
|
This is my very first dram of Quinta Ruban:
Neat-
Nose: Black Forest cake then rum pound cake, honey n' oak, a bakery in full early morning production, Dijon mustard, wafting pungent heavy honey notes, spiced cocktail assorted nuts, peaches n' cream niblets, corn syrup, French vanilla and Turkish delight.
Palate: Stewed concentrated dark fruit and the immediate spice volcano whose lava fades quickly leaving warm cocoa notes, rich and creamy and then aged tobacco leaf, aromatic and lively.
Finish: Long, creaminess perseverates with mild spicy oak, port essences yield to port infused cigar and dark fruit preserves.
This is a delightfully complex Glenmorangie which flatters as a much older dram than it actually is, playing with older, refined malt company and becoming comfortable with this crowd, a kissing cousin of sorts. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Craven, another beauty is Glencadam 12 Portwood Finish. I've had it at tastings and I have an unopened bottle. It's brilliant. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I have an unopened bottle of this in the house, along with a Lasanta.
I'll get round to opening them at some point in time I'm sure.
Reading your notes, I may speed up the opening of the QR, as the couple of port finihsed whiskys I have tried have been lovely and quite different (though possibly a little sulphured). |

| The one bottle I've had of the Quinta Ruban was a little bit disappointing - I can see what the attraction is, but at the same time there were unpleasant metallic notes, as well as a whiff of rubber that I didn't agree with... Maybe it was the particular bottle, I need to have another go at this. |

Alex, I didn't get any metallic or rubber myself and I have a very sensitive nose and palate.
I really wonder if it well may have been your particular bottle. If so, that's a shame too. I rarely have had an off bottle of single malt. Usually, its been with a mini with bad corking and even at that, very seldom. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."
