I had heard anecdotally that the new Falkirk distillery had purchased the Rosebank stills though some of them had been damaged by copper thieves. Don't know how true this is though.

It isnt the Arran distillery that has taken over Rosebank it is the Arran Brewery that has taken over the Rosebank distillery.

From the Scotsman newspaper online:
Quote:
THE entrepreneur behind the Arran Brewery plans to breathe new life into the historic Rosebank distillery in Falkirk under a multi-million pound scheme to turn the site into a brewery, bottling plant and "micro-distillery"?.

Gerald Michaluk, who bought the Grade-B listed building from Scottish Canals, also proposes to open the "Scottish National Brewing & Distilling Centre"? as a tourist attraction on the site.

Gerald Michaluk who has bought the Rosebank distillery said:

Quote:
"Diageo, which formerly ran the Rosebank distillery, has written into the deeds that the site cannot be used for distilling until 2017.

"It will be our intention to open what we now call a "micro-distillery' after that date, or before if Diageo releases us from its imposed restriction."?

Arran brewery have merged with the Isle of skye brewery, I know they were looking for a bottling plant in the central belt. They must be locating it there.

I believe that Diageo, the owners of the Rosebank trademark are now on record as saying that they will not be selling it. So we won't see any newly distilled Rosebank in the future, even if a new still is built and put into production.

I assume Diageo will be releasing new Rosebank special editions at some point in the future though, as they did in 2011 with their rather excellent 21 year Special Release. Once they run out of casks though, who knows what will happen?

I have no doubt we will see Rosebank again in the future amongst Diageos annual special releases as it will always be popular amongst drinkers and collectors. Personally i always thought it was a pleasant Lowland malt but it didnt blow me away.

Doesn't matter what they call it or where it is, it won't be Rosebank as we know it, but an entirely new distillery

Absolutely.

Though the brand name will have such a value, that I'm sure once Diageo have finally ran out of casks, and once a new distillery has been built that the name will reappear, even if it's not the real thing.

Rosebank, ah, nothing quite like it.

I managed to get hold of a case of the 2011 21yo release and it's stunning. The rest is for keeps until stock is gone, prices will skyrocket.

Problem with Rosebank is that it wont take that much aging, and given it was mothballed in 1993 there isn't too much left. It doesn't hold too well over 25 years old, so you can guarentee that Diageo will be putting some more out over the next couple of years in the Special Release line-up - 21years old seems a good age, so we may well get some this Autumn.

Its all on hold because of a rejected 1 million pound grant. Although they seem to be working on many other fronts.

Some progress on this one:

Not quite the £1m mentioned above but hopefully this moves things forward a bit.
