|
|
I bought some JW blue label from duty free in Mauritius yesterday; however it des not have a silk lining to the box or a certificate.
Everything looks and feels quality about the bottle and box, and it is numbered, but I'm not able to find details anywhere of this box type except by doing a search on google images.
It is a large blue box, with all the usual text and logos, with a tab on the right hand side about 3/4 of the way up. Bottle has sealed top with rope tag thing.
How can I be sure as possible that it is ok? Has anyone else seen this bottle type?
I've emailed the JW but it bounced saying their mailbox is full... |

Hi James. This sounds a bit dodgy. How does the price you paid compare to the going price in a liquor store at home? Is it possible someone actually lifted the silk lining and certificate and left the rest? Did you check any of the other boxes to see if they were all the same? There may be a dressed down version but I don't know.... _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Does the box look like this but with the certificate and silk lining missing?

Hi, thanks for your replies.
The box does not look exactly like the one pictured, it's almost like a cut down version in terms of the detail. It's gold inside, but only painted gold.
The price was €150 which is about £120.
I have some pictures if I can email them to you, as I'm not sure how to upload to forum.[/img] |

The retailer from the link above stated that JW have changed the packing to bottle and box only.
I have emailed manufacturer again to the main contact address to double check.
Looks like it could be a sign of the times and JW have scaled back the packing for this product.
If so, I would be happy all is well with the whisky, but a bit unhappy I didn't buy the luxury packaging version. My own fault for not researching.
I will let you know if I get a reply from diageo. |

Hi James123 and welcome to the forum,
The retailer is correct, I believe the packaging for the Johnnie Walker Blue Label was updated in 2011 (more like it was down graded with the removal of the silk lining), although the whisky itself is unchange. You can still find the silk lined boxes in shops but this will get rarer as time passes. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

Absolutely right,
Just had an email back from diageo confirming the packaging was changed in 2011
Thanks for all the replies, and hope this thread helps others who may be unsure.

I came across a bottlle today at the LCBO in Canada behind a locked case so I don't know if it had the desirable accoutrements, i.e., satin and certificate, but the price was sure high, 188 pounds equivalent., 68 pounds more than what you paid James. Thought you would get a kick out of that. Needless to say, it stayed in the locked case. Another 150 Can Dollars on top of the asking price here and one could get a Glenfiddich 30 which is more appealing to me. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."
