The Tweeddale Blend has been around for more than a year now so some of you may have tried it already, i just tried it myself for the first time this week. I have just added a piece on the Tweeddale Blend to the site, it is a very good blend with an interesting story behind it.
The blend is 50% grain whisky and 50% malt whisky. It has not been chill filtered and has been bottled at 46% ABV. Each malt whisky in the blend is drawn from a single cask. The single grain whisky is 10 years old, the eight single malt whiskies range from 10 year old to 21 year old. It contains Scotch Whisky from the Lowlands, Highlands, Speyside and Islay.
An excellent very well made and very easy to drink blend and a real taste of whisky history. Obviously some very good malts and grain whisky have gone into this. I think this could pleasantly surprise quite a few single malt whisky drinkers. Well worth a try at £28
You can read more about it and the story behind it here:

Alasdair Day tells me that Batch 2 of the Tweeddale Blend is due to be bottled on 24th June.
The Tweeddale Blend has always been produced in batches. Both J & A Davidson and Alasdairs Great Grandfather produced it this way. The constriction is using single casks for each whisky which obviously dictates the size of the batch. The 1st batch was 1256 bottles which is now all sold. The batches are not numbered nor are the bottles.
Batch 2 is on the way, it has been blended and is currently marrying quietly letting the different whiskies combine and the different alcohol levels from each cask come together evenly. It is due to be bottled on 24th June. Alasdair said looking at my Great Grandfather's cellar book every time the blend was produced it was slightly and subtly different. So keeping with this tradition batch two will be a 12 year old; the single grain is 15 years old in batch two not 10, one of the malts is from a new cask and the other 7 malts are from the same casks as batch 1.
So each batch will be unique, as every cask of whisky is. |

Unfortunately i wont be able to make it on Saturday but i am sure the Tweeddale blend will go down well if it is as good as the first batch, you will need to let us know butephoto.
How is the new shop going, well i hope. I will need to make a point and pop into the shop some day soon and check out your whisky selection and prices I pass through Glasgow airport every week but i am never in the city centre. |

I believe the Tweeddale Blend will be at the Glasgow Whisky Festival next weekend so if you are attending you can try before you buy.
I think they are only on there 2nd bottling/release now. |

I went to the Outer Hebrides a while back and when we stopped en route at Inveraray, as a novice whisky drinker aged 30, I wanted whisky. I didn't know what whisky, but I wanted to drink whisky, eat haggis and wear a kilt (well OK I didn't do the kilt thing).
I ended up in this place:
http://www.lfw.co.uk/
To be honest, the guy was quite patient with me with some tasting, although when he asked me some basic, although important questions such as peaty, smoky, sweet, single, blended etc... I just had to shrug my shoulders.
Then he asked about price point. I replied as I would do for anything - if it's worth it, I'll pay it (knowing nothing about what would be a good whisky).
To be fair, he could have bagged a couple hundred quid off me, but after me tasting a few samples with the general repost of "oh - that's nice", he said "right sonny, you've had 5 whiskies now and you're going to have to help me here, one more taster and that's you done.
A bit taken aback by his approach (admittedly looking back at it, he probably got loads of tourists that do this and buy nothing), I just said "can I try something local" and he gave me the Tweedale and told me the story of it being an old whisky discontinued in the 30's but resurrected by his grandson (I think).
To this day, I look back at that whisky as 'the one' that kicked it all off for me. I ended up driving around the Hebrides in my camper looking for perfect places that I could sit, enjoy the view and take in my my new found friend.
I highly recommend this whisky - especially straight out of the bottle, waiting for the Northern Lights |
