Welcome to the SMW forum shaneymc100.
That is a nice selection of whisky you are accumulating. I have tasted Balvenie Tun 1401 Batch 1, 2 and 4 and all have been excellent. And that is a fantastic price for the Talisker DE. |

Alastair, how did you find the Balvenie Tun 1401 batch 4, i noticed that Jim Murray didnt rate it as highly as the others. |

Interestingly batch four was married for 4 months in Tun 1401 rather than 3 months like the earlier batches, not sure if that would have had a great deal of influence or the bitterness came from the whiskies which went into the batch 4 vatting. |

| Wow that Tali was good value. I sturdily walked away from Laga DE for £30 how stupid was I. But we are in the process of a house move, where I'll be allowed a whisky room!!!! |

Hi shaneymc. I'm curious as to the "horrific" description you use for the HP 15, Montgomeries. I have not tried it myself. Is that the one from cask 1233 bottled in 2007 at 46%abv? What exactly was wrong with it? _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

| Yeah it is. The nose is like hp12 without the richness, almost has a lager and lime smell to it. The taste is like a very bland hp 12 and like my latest hp12 the Smokey aftertaste is non existant. My last hp12 had amazing smoky bacon aftertaste my latest hp12 has no smoke and the monty hp15 has no after taste at all. So pretty gutted about it. The monty is also very very pale compared to standard hp. |

| From your description of the bland flavours and very light colour it sounds like Montgomeries may have used casks that were refilled a few times too many... Bad luck. |
