I came across this comprehensive and detailed article regarding the health benefits of moderate alcohol consumption. This article reviews numerous studies and provides statistical results to support this frame of reference. It's really worth the read. I have spoken myself to cardiac rehab hospital staff who also reinforce this position. This topic is clearly germane to single malt scotch culture is a positive way.

Very interesting, thanks for the link.
I did briefly mention the health benefits of moderate alcohol consumption on the "Drink Safely" page which i have put a link to from every page on the forum. I hope the SMW site users view this page and take notice of the recommended daily drinking levels. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

| I'll drink to this news. Pour me an Ardbeg or two on a cold autumn day. |

| I always try to be good and and stick to 3 or 4 drinks at most but through the week it is often just the one whisky in the evening. |

I am quite content with pouring 1/2 oz. portions at home and at some tastings in the community though there may be 6 Scotches offered, they often pour 1/4 oz. portions so only a grand total of 1 and 1/2 ounces all night. At home, I usually enjoy 2 or 3 half ounce pours of different malts and that alone can take a fair bit of time. I almost always do tasting notes even when I'm relaxing with a dram at home and spend significant time nosing and enjoying rather than the "down the hatch" mentality which is not characteristic of the single malt drinkers I know. And of course the cost of rare malts does not encourage massive drams/consumption. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I'm always within the safe limits, other than when I'm not and even then, I start out within the limitsv
In all seriousness, since my son arrived 20 months ago, it's rare for me to have too much, plus i'm getting older now and don't have the hangover recovery capasity that I used to have. |
