Aberlour 16 Year Old Double Cask Matured Notes

Here are my taste notes after I opened my very first bottle of Aberlour 16 today.

Neat-

Nose: Aged toffee, dark caramels, citrus (oranges), sweet maltiness, sea air, marzipan, fruit drops, black forest rum cake, ripe nectarines, closed cedar chest, honey layered with vanilla bean, sultanas and a French vanilla aroma without the coffee; a hint of french onion soup to stay with the "je ne sais quoi" elements.

Palate: Syrupy becoming creamy, spice, warming, stewed aged fruit, blood oranges and rich sherry notes.

Finish: Lingering, figs, plums, spice on the outer fringe, oak flashes, smooth and rich with "eau de wet wooden ladle" (an appealing tone).

The Aberlour 16 clearly shows its maturation in terms of how it finesses the fruit and curls in echoes of off-the-beaten-path aromas and flavors, i.e., French onion soup and wet wooden ladle. A relaxing, dessert type dram, warming, ready to put a smile on your face. P.S. A couple of drops of water yields a berry-dark chocolate palate.

Great tasting note Quaich1, I have recently discovered the Aberlour 16, it is a superb dram and a decent price like most Aberlour bottlings and long may it remain that way.
