Neat-

Nose: Sherried peat, fresh-cut fruit, vanilla, pineapple, fruit cellar notes, smokehouse whiffs, aromatic light peat, cedar chest with open bottles of sherry, spicy caramel, rum and raisin ice cream.

Palate Peat hit, bonfire smoke, appealing sharp flavor changes, warm sherry wrapped in bonfire smoke, creamy, peppery fruit syrup, cocoa and then fresh mint.

Finish Long, creamy, very warming, aged rum, touch of rhubarb, menthol and minty smoke, stacks of refined peat with a smooth ending. This is a very pleasant dram, more refined in some ways than the standard L16 and the finish is extremely pleasant, almost cleanses the palate on its own on time with a feeling of very fresh minty breath.

Sounds great, i love the sherried Lagavulin expressions. Is that the Lagavulin 1995 Distillers Edition or perhaps the Lagavulin 1995 12 year old sherry cask 48% which was bottled for the Friends of the Classic Malts in 2008.

I have a bottle of the Lagavulin 1994 DE, it really is an superb dram. Had some at the weekend alongside some Ardbeg Uigeadail, both superb i really couldnt pick a favorite between them but the the Ardbeg probably has the edge being 54.2%

Always wondered why Laphroaig doesnt add a decent sherry finish to there range.

Ive had a few sherried Laph's from the SMWS in recent months, and they are excellent, so I'm with you on the Laph adding a decent sherried finish to their standard range.

Sounds like a great dram! Sherry and peat can be odd bedfellows but, in my experience, the integration certainly improves with age. That reflects a taste for a muted peat influence behind a powerful sherry lick but I like my young Islays bourbon casked.

minesascotch, let us know what you think of the Laphroaig PX Cask, someone told me it hasnt got a big heavy sherry influence more medium but adding loads of sweetness from the PX casks and they reckoned it was a brilliant dram.
