I came across this blend at the LCBO, Ballantine's 17 year old Blended Scotch for $89.99 Canadian dollars or 57 pounds equivalent. Jim Murray gave it a 97.5 rating and Whisky of the Year in 2011. Has anyone tried it. I would be interested in your comments before I decide to get it or not.

It is certainly a quality blended whisky, i got a few bottles recently when a supermarket here in the UK sold it off for £25, not sure i would pay £57 for it as there are a lot of very good single malts for that price

I got a couple of bottles for £25 also, couldnt resist.

As Innes says it really is a quality blend, not sure i would pay £57 for it when you can get the likes of Highland Park 18 over here for that price but it is certainly worth more than the £25 i did pay.

The prices for whiskies in Europe are much cheaper than here in Canada; it makes me jealous.

Ditto, got two bottles as it was near enough half the regular price - it's a great, smooth blend, very creamy and probably just about worth the full price. I know you pay over the odds in Canada (is that compensated by income tax levels?!) so I guess you should weigh up the relative cost of a few benchmark whiskies.

Incidentally do you ever get sales/discounts over there?

The only one who gets rich from spirit sales here in Ontario, Canada appears to be the provincial government and no income tax benefits here directly that I can track down. Special sales here at the LCBO are negligible on single malts; intermittent discounts of 4 or 5 dollars. Prices here are still at least 30% higher or more than in England or Scotland.
