I have found a consistent thread among single malt scotch drinkers sampled that they consistently feel that after moderate scotch drinking, they feel "cognitively" quite clear-headed while the same individual reports feeling much more "buzzed" after a few glasses of wine or beers as their sole beverage at the time. I wonder why that is the case. Though I don't drink much wine I would have to say even a glass seems to make me tired and if not spaced out at least a little "draggy' while 3 drams of single malt seem to have negligible effects on me. How do others feel about this issue? It was an informal topic during my recent gathering of single malt enthusiasts among a subset of attendees. Most people agreed with my view. I would be very interested in your comments.

I wonder if the volume of 1 glass of wine and beer drunk hits your system quicker than one whisky.

I am not a wine drinker but enjoy the odd beer and i would say it has a quicker effect on me than the equivalent units of whisky does cosumed over the same period of time. Perhaps as Drover says the the volume off liquid determines how quickly it effects you

Excellent answer. Worth a dram of one's best whisky!
Very Happy

I can't say I've noticed a particular difference. I do enjoy a wee "half'n'half", often with a cask strength whisky and a high strength beer, particularly Belgian pale ale (e.g. Duvel is 8.5%). I do find it has quite a debilitating effect though so the trick is to sip at both!
