|
|
Longest serving Scotch malt master David Stewart marks an incredible half century with the release of an extremely rare Balvenie 50 year old single malt.
The Balvenie Fifty was matured in a European oak sherry hogshead, rarely used today in whisky making. Filled with newly distilled spirit in 1962 and matured over the following 50 years.
With an ABV of 44.1%, The Balvenie Fifty is presented in a hand blown glass bottle surrounded by a wooden case, created by Scottish craftsman, Sam Chinnery. Forty nine rings of seven beautiful Scottish grown timbers mark Malt Master David Stewart's half century at The Balvenie distillery. Galloway Ash, Borders Oak, Lothian Walnut, Cherry and Yew, Fife Beech, and fittingly, Banffshire Elm from The Balvenie Distillery site and a closing layer in brass, echoing the fittings of the distillery's stills and spirit safes.
The Balvenie Fifty is an extremely limited edition release with just 88 bottles available and has a RRP of £20,000.

William, sounds like a grand dram. We are, as many say, in a Golden Age of Scotch and the gems are now rising to the top. Wouldn't it be nice to have a regular lottery where the prizes weren't monetary but instead the rarest of single malt scotch bottles. I'm sure plenty of people would buy tickets. I know I would. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I will take a couple of tickets.
Definitely a golden age, the distillers now seem to be able to confidently put these £10000+ price tags on the rare whiskies and know they will sell them. Not sure if they could have done this even just 10 years ago. |

Not sure if they could have done this even just 10 years ago. | There was a Balvenie 1952 50 Year Old Cask 191 but i forget what the price was when they released it. It did become very sought after and was considered to be an excellent expression of the Balvenie.
Edit
I had a look through my files which include old whisky product lists and prices and i believe the Balvenie Cask 191 was priced £5800 when it was released which was one of the highest prices for a bottle at the time. Today that price seems very modest compared to the 6 figure prices we have seen in recent times. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |
