Hi Everyone,

I'm back from the weekend Order of the Companions of the Quaich gathering in Niagara Falls. What a great event close to one of the wonders of the world. The comraderie was great, the food delicious and the single malts, the icing on the cake. On Saturday afternoon the Macallan and Highland Park Ambassador for all of Canada presented a master class as well. Between events one day, I had some nice Talisker drams with one group of attendees.

Here are all the drams I tried at the tastings on the weekend in order of consumption. The hospitality room in the hotel also allowed for later repours on some drams-:

-Glencadam 10 DB

-Dalmore 15... 40% abv, 100% Sherry casks

-Glenfarclas 105... 60% abv

-Lg2 Elements of Islay...58%abv (Lagavulin)

-Macallan 10 Fine Oak

-Macallan 12

-Highland Park 15

-Highland Park 18

-Macallan 18

-Macallan 14... 46%abv Cooper's Choice

-Ben Nevis 15 single cask #911 distilled 1996 Companions of the Quaich bottling, 234 bottles

-Ar2 Elements of Islay (Ardbeg)..58.8%abv-This one packs a punch like I've never felt before.

Nice presentation glasses for master class attendees and baseball caps with distillery logos were given as gifts. The steaks, chicken and grilled salmon were fantastic with all the trimmings, the desserts scrumptious and the folk from around Canada made for a delightful weekend.

What do you think of the drams offered? Would love some feedback.

I have had a few different Elements of Islay bottlings which are from folks at The Whisky Exchange and all i have tried have been great examples of the distillery they originated from. Particularly liked there Lagavulin, Ardbeg and Port Ellen bottlings.

Not had the Highland Park 15 for a long time but was never inspred to get another bottle asw the HP18 did not cost much more and far superior dram

I had the Lg1 Elements of Islay from TWE which was superb, havent had the Lg2 but have read that it is a younger expression but still a very good expression of Lagavulin.

Sadly i never got to try any of the Ar Elements of Islay but i wish i had now after reading your comment Quaich1. I think the Ardbeg sells very quickly when TWE release it.

That is some nice drams you had over the weekend and the food and company sounded good also.

What was the Ben Nevis 15 single cask bottling like, was a a big sherried dram.

I have only ever bought myself 1 bottle of the Highland Park 15, as Mark said the excellent HP18 doesnt cost much more. In fact i prefered the old travel retail Highland Park 16 to the 15.

I always enjoy the Macallan 18, actually something i need to restock as i finished off the bottle i had.

William, the weekend was really delightful. The Ben Nevis 15 independent bottling was from a bourbon single cask. There was a faux strawberry, cotton-candy-like rush on the nose at first. The dram was light, sweet, decadent, aromatic and soft. The palate yielded toffee chew as well as creamy, spicy and grassy notes. The finish was drying and spicy with toffee as well. The color was like white wine. A really nice dram.
