I am fortunate enough to have a lot of family who are Ileach (from the Isle of Islay), and on a recent visit to the island I managed to get hold of a beautiful bottle of 19 yo Bruichladdich peated and aged in a Calvados cask Single Malt Whisky. The cask was opened earlier this year and was sent to distill in the Autumn of 1992. It is a strong smoky whisky with a distinctly sweet aftertaste and comes with the title/bottle label - "Bruichladdich Forbidden Fruit." My bottle is number 73 of 650. No more of this brand will be produced after the cask is emptied of its 650 bottles worth. I am basically placing this post in order to get my bottle valued by people whom I presume are experts on the topic of good Islay Single Malt Whiskies.

Is this a 50cl valinch? A photo would be useful if you can get one.

Cheers

Yes i think it will be the 50cl valinch, here is a recent pic of someone filling a bottle from the Bruichladdich twitter page

It wont increase in value until it is sold out, so probably still worth what you paid for it plus a little more as you need to go to the distillery to get a bottle. i havent heard any reviews of the whisky yet, if they are good it will certainly help its collectability and its future value.

I tasted this in October 2011 when on a tour of the distillery, Jim gave us a sample straight from the cask it was great, there was an apple influence, I love apple, we were told it would be available in the winter and at @ £80.00 per bottle, I had to get one, I have been trying to get my hands on this since then, sending about six emails over the last ten months and was told that they were going to do something special with it, I will now have to forget it as a trip to Islay makes it unaffordable for me, but good luck to those that visit and pick up a bottle. The taster that you had in October 2011 would not have been "Foirbidden Fruit" unless from a similar cask marketed under a different name. Bruichladdich have a habit of opening a cask as in the picture every couple of months for sale in batches of 650 only in store (ie not for mail order - as you are required to fill your own bottle). The open cask is given a different one off brand name every time. Mine is "Forbidden Fruit". Previously it was a label to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee with a picture of the Sex Pistols and a Union Jack on it. A family member of mine works in the distillery and has numerous of these bottles as collectors' items. The "so and so" doesn't drink the product so has loads of these soon to be very valuable whiskies.
Also, a new Bruichladdich due on shop shelves throughout the land this week, called "Octomore" was first tasted (as a non employee) by me, on a behind the scenes tour recently. If you like peaty Islay malts, this is a must buy!!!!! The bottle is elegant black as well.

r900p & El Cuiri

Thanks for your replies, the cask I tasted was a 1992 Calvados Cask 19 years old which ties in with the details of the shop cask, but if several tastings had been given then perhaps they had more than one cask, I hope so it was a lovely whisky, I will see if I can get one delivered.

Thanks again and El Cuiri what is your relatives address and hours of work please ? Laughing

I would say it is early days to be valueing this but i would have thought it would fetch £150 now. I wonder if the sale of Bruichladdich will add to the value in the future of the stuff produced after the reopening up until the sale.
