|
|
I had heard that Sainsburys had a new range of there own Taste the Difference whisky but just saw it for myself today and i dont think i will ever be buying it.
For those that havent come across it yet they now offer a Sainsburys Taste the Difference Highland and Islay single malt whisky bottled at 46% in 50cl bottles for £28.49
They still have there old range available in my local store which is 70cl 40% bottles for just under £20, i have enjoyed a few bottles of this in the past but i would not consider paying £28.49 for a 50cl bottle of supermarket label whisky. |

blumin hell! nice that its 46% but 50cl is just an insult! own labels should be better value. Maybe there is something extra special in the bottle?
Ive always thought of Jura 16 year old as the worlds most over valued whisky, its always 25 - 30 quid for half a bottle _________________ In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king |

| That's preposterous pricing. Even when their own label 70cl bottles are under £20, I don't often buy them as you can usually get a named bottle on offer for not much more. Their own label Islay is very nice and the highland is good too; I would buy any of their own label malts when they are on offer for around £15, but I doubt I'd pay over £28 for their own label 46% malts even if it was a 70cl bottle never mind 50cl. If you shop around you can often get a decent 46% 70cl malt for this price, so why the hell would anyone pay the same for a 50cl supermarket label? |

| I dont know any malt whisky drinkers that would pick up a 50cl unknown distillery supermarket label whisky at this price but i would guess Sainsburys know this and are confident non regular whisky buyers and gift buyers will still pick it up because of the Taste The Difference label. |

Thats works out at £39.89 if it was a 70cl bottle
I dont know if you will taste the difference but your pocket certainly will feel the difference. |

I dont know if you will taste the difference but your pocket certainly will feel the difference. | You can get the Ardbeg 10 for £35 or the Lagavulin 16 for £40 over at TWE so why would anyone want to pay almost £40 for the no name Sainsburys Islay. |

Hopefully Sainsburys pricing on there new taste the difference whisky isnt a sign of things to come as far as whisky pricing is concerned.
There is no slump in whisky sales far from it but prices continue to rise sharply. Are the whisky producers/shops taking advantage of the surge in popularity of whisky and using the current financial/economic situation to inflate whisky prices and there profits, personally i think they are. |

it is 'Taste the Difference' so could it not be a very good malt indeed? supermarket whisky is usually less yes so maybe this at own-label price would be £60 say?
is there an age statement on the bottle? I havent been to sainsburies in a while to see it. I'm not sure they would put it at an outrageous price without a reason; those malt shelves are very competitive. _________________ In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king |

| I noticed that they have the new taste the difference whisky listed in there online shop but they dont mention an age statement or have an image of it yet. I read on another site that it is a 46% abv non chillfiltered version of there existing taste the difference whisky. |

hmmm ok, so it might just be the same stuff at 46% debatably a bit overpriced
or it could be Ardbeg! they bottle their whisky at 46% anyway _________________ In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king |

Yea it seems to to be common practice now amongst retailers to over inflate prices so they can have huge money off sales. For example at Christmas i have never seen so many bottles of whisky with such big discounts, if the discounts were genuine companies would be struggling to make a profit and neither the supermarkets or whisky companies are struggling.
I am now awaiting the Sainsburys new taste the difference malt whisky half price sale |

Wouldn't normally dredge up an old thread but this was positively prophetic! Perhaps I'm being naive though?
