A friend at work enjoys regular trips up the west coast and seems to have a bit of a fixation with the Ben Nevis distillery. He has been promising to pick me something up for ages and he's finally brought back some blend called Hector's Nectar from the distillery shop. It's only £15 so I'm not expecting much but the only reference to it I can find is a post by Ralfy (of YouTube fame) saying it's rotten! LOL. Anyone had any experience of this one?
The thing that interests me is that Nikka own Ben Nevis but not a grain distillery (Ben Nevis even had a coffey still historically). So where does the grain whisky come from? I'll maybe post a review, could be comedy, if it really is gut rot I always have a bottle of green ginger wine on hand! Keeping an open mind just now though...

Never heard of this one but i do enjoy the Ben Nevis 10
I tasted the McDonald's Traditional Ben Nevis at the Robbies Drams tasting in Ayr last week and wasnt impressed with it. It is a limited edition which is supposed replicate the style of Ben Nevis sold in the 1880's but it was simply very young Ben Nevis to me and certainly not worth its price tag, just my opinion others may like it but not for me and not at £80 a bottle |

I'm just in after watching the football with a couple of beers and thought I'd have a dram of this for a wee nightcap. Actually it's pretty passable. The nose isn't great, a lot of bland grainy notes, but the palate is quite sherried and sweet. Hard to put an age on it, maybe 5 or 6 years old at a guess, perhaps with some older casks in the vat.
