Hi, I drink malts and blends, but my favourite blend is the JW gold 18.

I was passing through duty free two weeks ago and managed to buy the JW gold reserve 1 litre for £35.

Cracked it open last night and thought it is a great buy, not quite as smooth as the 18 but at the price I paid I think it is great value for money.

Has anyone else tried it...?

Cheers

I havent tried it yet, i believe the Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve was only launched a couple of months ago. They also launched a Johnnie Walker Platinum Label. I wouldnt mind hearing what you think of it when you open it as i do like the JW Gold 18.

Cheers, Gregor

Johnnie Walker Gold sells here in Ontario Canada for $110. for 750ml, not cheap.

The Gold label reserve is worth buying if you enjoy the Gold 18yr.

I was at Cardhu last year doing a special tour, they gave us a Gold 18yr, which was kept overnight in the freezer + with dark chocolate, mmmmh.

I have a bottle of JW Platinum but I have not opened it yet, has anyone tried it?

I was just looking at the new Johnnie walker Gold label reserve and Johnnie Walker 18 Platinum Label over at The Whisky Exchange. The Platinum label has an 18 year old age statement but the gold label doesnt appear to have an age statement, the JW Platinum is £66 and £41 for the JW Gold label. I fancy giving them a go but will wait for some reviews i think.

I believe the Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve is the replacement for the Johnnie Walker Gold Label 18. The Johnnie Walker Platinum is a new addition although this now carries an 18 year old age statement and a bigger price tag than the old gold label 18 year old

I hope the Reserve is not replacing the Gold 18yr, not as smooth, although it is cheaper.
You might find the Platinum is the replacement but I have not cracked my bottle open yet so I can't compare them.

As far as i am aware Johnnie Walker Platinum Label will be positioned between Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve and Johnnie Walker Blue Label. The Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve will be positioned between Johnnie Walker Black Label and Johnnie Walker Platinum Label.

The full Johnnie Walker range available to the on-trade across the UK includes Red Label, Black Label, Gold Label Reserve, Platinum Label and Blue Label.

The old JW Gold Label 18 year old may still exist in travel retail or overseas markets, although i would think we will see it around here in the UK in whisky specialist shops for a while yet.

I think with the addition of the new Gold Label Reserve to the JW range they are hoping to tempt existing Black Label drinkers to trade up to the new Gold Label Reserve.
