A 60 year old bottle of Macallan which was distilled in in 1926 and bottled in 1986 was sold at New Yorks first liquor auction in over 80 years. The vintage bottle of Macallan surpased its estimate of $20,000 to $30,000 - it fetched the measily sum of only $54000 which is around £26000
Unbelievably, despite the end of prohibition in 1933, New York did not allow spirit auctions until this year. The auction was held by Christie's New York

I wonder if the winning bidder drunk the whisky or is a collector.
I love to hear when bottles such as this which are sold for thousands and the buyer then procedes to drink it. If you have the money to buy something so unique why wouldnt you have the pleasure of it. After all whisky is for drinking.
