I noticed a few of the newspapers such as The Scotsman and even The Sun running this story about whisky and global warming.
Apparently, acording to scientists Scotland's whisky industry is under threat from global warming. They say rising sea levels could swamp some of our coastal distilleries such as Bowmore, Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Talisker, Glenmorangie and Balblair.
Dr Jim Hansom from Glasgow University's Geographical and Earth Science department said that all the distilleries on the coast are potentially in danger of flooding and in the worst case scenario they would have to relocate.
Laphroaig and Lagavulin both have cellars below high water mark and that is part of the mystique and allure of their whiskies. In future we could see barrels completely surrounded by salt-water. It's that serious.
I particularly noticed the comments made in the Scotsman by John McLellan, the manager of Bunnahabhain. He said "Hopefully it is going to be quite a few years before we get to that stage," Then went on to say "To be honest, I'm more worried about the here and now rather than about things that could happen in the next 50 years. I'll certainly not be losing any sleep over these warnings."
I think John McLellan may have the right attitude here as this story is a bit alarmist and i am surprised so many national newspaper have ran the story.

Hi John,
It sounds alarming and looking at all the news on the tele, you should be worried, however . . . . . I don't mind the barrels floating around in Warehouse 4 at Ardbeg, as long the whisky within stays good (say for the next 20 years).
Hope you had a good time at Christmas and wishing you a Happy New Year to you, the family and all the Forum Members.
