I recently purchased a bottle of Highland Park 18. It's an interesting dram .The nose is exquisite. The palate has character but the salted butter taste is all encompassing like having one's tongue stuck to a salt lick. Is it just me or is the salt overpowering for you too? _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

| yep i get the the salted butter (not over powering at all) but coated in the delicious Highland Park honey and light peat also spice and fruit, i just love the HP 18 it is a consistently good dram. |

| i do get a bit of salt from the Highland Park 18 but not overpowering in anyway. It would be interesting if you still get this once the bottle has been opened a while, sometimes i find when i first open a bottle some notes are stronger and more in your face and these seem to calm down a bit after the bottle has been opened a while. |

That's an interesting perspective. I will keep note of your keen observation. Thank-you. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Some people are more sensitive to some notes than others i think also the very nature of single malt whisky is that no 2 batches of the same whisky will be 100% identical so it is quite possible you have a bottle with the salt being more prominent.
Like bookie i get the salt in the HP18 but to me it isnt overpowering, it is one of my favourite whiskies in this price range |

I tried this dram again tonight and found the salt actually less intense this time with a lot more flavors on the palate and in the finish. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."
