Warehouse inventory tracking - Help/info needed.

Hi all, I'm currently researching the technologies utilised within the industry to track/monitor stock throughout the whole supply chain. Does anyone have any insights into the approaches used by the big players i.e. Barcoding, RFID etc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know when you visit any of the big distillerires now and go into the warehouse everything is barcoded now, in fact i dont recall visiting any whisky storage warehouse in recent years that isnt using a barcode system. Many still also use a colour coding system were they paint the ends of the barrel to indicate how many times that barrel has been used. Many still stencil the distillery name and date on the end of the barrel but this really is not required if a barcoding system is being used but i guess distillery visitors like to see the barrels with the whisky name and maturation date on the end of the barrel.

I would imagine the big companies such as Diageo know exactly what whisky they have sitting maturing at any one time and if they wanted to release a a new expression they wouild know at the click of a button whether they had sufficient maturing stock to support a new expression.
