|

I really enjoy Lagavulin single malt and up to this point I have only tasted the 16 year. I recently obtained a bottle of the 12 year special edition bottled in 2010 and have yet to open it. I had to take a bit of a drive outside my city to get this one and want to let the anticipation build a bit. I would really like to hear from anyone who has already tried it. The pundits writing the tasting notes really like it. What do you think?

| IMO the 2010 bottling was outstanding, in fact all the Lagavulin 12 year old special releases i have tried to date have been excellent. If you already like the Lagavulin 16 then you will definitely like the 12 year old special releases |

| The peat in the Lagavulin 12 is more full on than the 16 year old. Any bottle i have had have been excellent. Currently got a bottle of the 2011 release on the go which is particularly good. |

| Sounds like I have a winner here in the 2010 bottling of the Lagavulin 12 year old. I would love to get my hands on one of the older Lagavulin, greater than 16 year maturation at some point. |

| Sounds very promising. Lagavulin seems to have the peat just right every time. |

The laga 12 caused me to stop buying the laga 16 - particularly since the 12 is the same price (or no more than $10 more, here in NY). Additionally, ardbeg uigeadal is typically cheaper than the laga 16 (again, here in NY). The uigeadal is the same style as the laga 16, but I find the uigeadal just so much better - more smoke, longer finish, more flavors, better finish (some recent bottles of the laga 16 seemed a bit soapy on the finish to me).
Enjoy the laga 12, you have a truly excellent malt on your hands and give the uigeadal a try if you want what is (imho, of course) a superior version of the laga 16.
Cheers! |
