I have been watching a few videos on SingleMaltTV.

Some mention tasting the whisky at 20%
After the smelling etc before water, they dilute it to taste it.

Here is the question!
How much water do you add to a measure to reduce it to 20%

If I am drinking a 40% dram, and I add the same amount of water, does that take me down to 20%?

Sorry of this sounds really daft!!!

I wouldnt reduce it to 20%

I would say get a straw and use it like a dropper and add small amounts at a time untill your prefered amount! you cant take any water away but can always add more.
Unless u add more whisky Laughing

I would assume to half the abv you would add 50% of the volume of the whisky in the glass, i may be wrong. Having said that i would say JABs advice is better add a drop at a time until you get to the point where you think the water is nt bringing outthe flavour but diluting it. Every whisky and every person is different so your prefered ABV may be very different from mine

Think of it this way... If you had a 25ml of pure alcohol (100%) and added 25ml of water then you'd have 50ml with half water half alcohol. So adding the same amount of water half the alcohol percentage. Therefore adding 25ml water to a 40% dram would reduce it to 20%
