|
|
Hi, I was staying in a rather nice hotel last weekend in Edinburgh that had a great whisky bar, I had a look at the whisky menu, I quite fancied the Macallan 1969 fine and rare but at a whopping £165 I declined. The prices did vary from around £5-£400.
I think I paid about £7.50 for a Mac 18 about two years ago up north and a JW gold was about £10.
It got me wondering what is the most expensive anyone has paid for a nip of whisky?

While down in London with the wife for a weekend near the end of last year i went to Boisdale Of Canary Wharf as i knew they had a extensive whisky selection and right enough they have a excellent whisky menu but some of the prices had to be seen to be believed.
I had a Talisker 18 which was £11. I fancied some Ardbeg so i had a Ardbeg 10 which was £10.70 and Ardbeg Corryvreckan which was £19. I fancied an Ardbeg Supernova 2010 but gave it a miss as it was £61.
They were all 50ml measures so effectively double measures
One of the more expensive whiskies they offered was a Macallan 1937 37 year old at just under £2200 for a 50ml measure |

I paid the equivalent of around £25 for a Macallan 25 from El Gaucho restaurant in Aruba 5 years ago.
I'd just eaten easily the best steak of my life, and followed it with one of the best drams I've had too.
Not a price I'd pay regularly but it was a special, special night. |

I was in the Albannach Whisky Bar at Trafalgar Square London on Tuesday last, they had a 50 yr old Balvenie at £750.00 for 50ml, no I didn't buy it, they don't allow whisky in A & E !

| I paid £14 once for a Highland Park 18 year old in a hotel i was staying in. There wasnt much in the bottle which the bar man poured it from and after tasting i thought that bottle must have sat on the shelf almost empty for a very long time as the character of the whisky had faded. Now i would only buy an expensive single malt whisky when in a bar were i know the whisky is a popular seller |

While at a wedding recently i paid $27 Canadian for Macallan 18 and $24 for Highland Park 18, by the end of the day i had around 12 of them
I enjoyed them at the time and it was a special occasion so i wasnt counting pennies |
