|
|
Aldi are launching a limited edition 40 year old single malt whisky under the name of Glenbridge for £49.99
Aldi will be releasing 3,000 bottles of the Glenbridge 40 year old whisky throughout its 450 UK stores. It is a Speyside single malt and has been matured in European Oak Sherry casks. Bottled at 40% ABV they describe it as having an aroma of dark chocolate and dried figs, the sweet taste gives off a marmalade zestiness, and the dry oak tannins fade into a lingering sweet and mellow finish.
Don't rush down to your local Aldi store just yet as it doesn't go on sale until Thursday 8th December and I doubt there will be any left come Friday the 9th December

So which distillery do you think the Glenbridge 40 originates from
Can it be Macallan
Will you be buying one _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

As your article says William, i am sure we will see it on ebay. If it turns out to be a overmatured whisky which is like chewing on a piece of old oak and it was to get bad reviews from whisky drinkers websites such as this i think the ebay prospectors will be left holding the bottle. |

You would need quite a few barrels or sherry butts to give you 3000 bottles after 40 years, more than 12 barrels i would think, so where did Aldi get all these barrels from. Why wouldnt the owner of the barrels bottle the whisky themselves and sell it for loads more or is some whisky broker, indie bottler or even distillery offloading some over aged oaky barrels.
I cant get a bottle myself but i would love to hear some reviews on the Glenbridge 40 |

I might get it just for the tag of having a 40 year old whisky!
alarm bells do ring though, what speyside distillery would sell 40 year old stock at such a price ?! its 40% abv normally premium bottlings are higher but 40 years old wouldnt be much higher ! _________________ In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king |

Perhaps it is a good will gesture from a distillery that perhaps supplys Aldi with its other Aldi own label whisky or even original distillery/blender label.
I am sure the age alone will sell it, as you say Tom just for the tag of having a 40 year old. |

This seems to have caused a bit of a buzz and many of the big newspapers have picked up this story.
I noticed on cask strength they have a review of both Aldis Glen Marnoch 24 year old and the Glenbridge 40 year old. They really didnt like the Glen Marnoch but thought the Glenbridge 40 was worth the money. If it is a decent whisky it would make a very impressive gift this christmas. |

Anyone willing to get hold of 1 extra bottle and ship it to the Netherlands?
I am willing to pay 15 pounds extra and pay for all shippings costs of course. |

| I wonder if every store will have an allocation, if so that will be approx 6 bottles available per store. Not sure if they would let anyone buy more than one bottle. |

Is the similarity in these 2 bottles more than a coincidence

Just been sent an email about this by my son at Uni.
Looks like youll have to start queuing now if you want one.....All the Students reckon that it will make the perfect Xmas present for their bill payer.
Actually working out the amount of bottles and number of stores. Ill be amazed if any even hit the shelves after staff have had them. |

I would certainly be having a bottle if i could. i have phoned my brother in Scotland and he will be on a mission to source a bottle for me.
Whether it turns out to be the greatest malt you have ever tasted of just a decent dram there is something special about pouring yourself a dram that took 40 years in the making. |

6 bottles MAX per store. (no doubt the manager, ass Manager and the staff will have their Xmas presents or dare I say it E-Bay accounts sorted.
The word "Loss Leader" springs to mind with this. Ive went for a few things in both Lidl and Aldi, only to be told we didnt get them or theyre sold out...and I was first in!
Still.....when there isnt any in store, im sure Ill buy some half price veg or horse blanket, motorbike leathers or even a rather bespoke chipboard bedside cabinet in lustrous luxurious white.
Perhaps Im being cynical. |
