Kilchoman has announced the release of Kilchoman Machir Bay, the first general release from the distillery. It will be available throughout 2012 and is a vatting of 3, 4 and 5 year old whisky which has been matured in fresh bourbon barrels and finished in oloroso sherry butts for 8 weeks. Bottled at 46% ABV and priced around £38.50

Each year we will add more mature malt to the vatting.

I wonder if we will be able to tell by the label which year the Kilchoman Machir Bay is from or maybe it will have a batch number Question

Asked Kilchoman this question and here is what they said

"Yes, there is 2012 written on the front label and box.... Which will become 2013 for next years release."

I would guess it is more to keep a flow of money coming in until the maturing stock comes of age. With a year on the bottle and box it will also keep the collectors happy and act as a count down until the stock gets to Kilchomans target age whatever that may be.

I think it would be similar idea to the aberlour a bunadh with the different batches, and would let you taste the malt as it gets older and matures!
