Drink giant Diageo has put forward plans to build whisky warehousing at a former open-cast coal site in Fife. The proposals, for Begg Farm in Cluny, would see 46 warehouses built to store whisky produced elsewhere and bring much needed jobs and development to the area.

However, the development runs contrary to the Mid Fife Local Plan and will have to go before a "departure hearing"? before planning permission can be granted, reports local news site fifetoday.co.uk.

They quote Diageo's Grain Distilling Director, Richard Bedford, as saying: "We believe our proposal for warehousing at Begg Farm offers a fantastic opportunity to create a highly effective and efficient hub for the production, maturation and bottling of Scotch whisky.

""This would also represent a significant investment in the Fife economy building on the major investments Diageo has already made to expand Cameronbridge and Leven, creating new direct and indirect employment in the area.

""We are already engaging locally on the detail of our proposals and will submit our full planning application to Fife Council."?
