Not had a bottle Springbank 21 i believe the price is related to it being a very limited rare release of Springbank of this age and it supposed to be a very good whisky.

There was a release of Springbank 21 year old about 2005 i think it was which now sells for £300 - £400 in shops. So i doesnt surprise me that the latest release Springbank 21 is £170. With Springbanks small production output these releases dont come around often

I havent tried the new Springbank 21 but the old release was excellent and that combined with the rarity of the Springbank 21 is what makes it so expensive.

If it is just for drinking and not for collecting i would recommend the Springbank 18, a bottle will only set you back about £70 and latest Springbank 18 really is a cracker IMO.

Apparently it is every bit as good as the earlier Springbank 21 release but the price is too much IMO for a 21 year old. A whisky should become collectable and acquire a collectable price but it should not be released with a collectable price tag, pricing is getting mad these days.

The last batch of 21yo which was released around 004 I think, now fetches around £220 at auction so I can't really see this latest version being an especially good investment given the retail price.

I love Springbank and have many bottles, including Society bottlings but IMO this is simply to expensive.

Totally agree Kray, unfortunately it is becoming more common to release whisky with a collectable price tag rather than that whisky acquiring a collectable price tag. This may be collectable but i am sure many collectors also like to consider the investment side when buying and the new Springbank 21 surely wont appeal to many whisky collectors as an investment
