I found this initiative http://worldwhiskyday.com/
World Whisky Day was and is a concept aimed at spreading the global love of whisky by encouraging people across the world to hold their own events, or whatever sort, to celebrate whisky in all its forms and incarnations. There is much work already being put in to make this event a worldwide success and we would urge everyone to join the effort and embrace a concept which aims not only to be a positive force for whisky but also fun for all involved. |

I'll be celebrating at my house with at least 14 different Whiskys... I already have 7 people confirmed to attend. _________________ A thrill a minute might sound pretty good, but a minute is a long time to wait between thrills. -Jeff Roberts |

It seems to have gotten a lot of coverage in the press today, this may have generated a lot of traffic for the web site as it looks like it as either crashed or exceded its bandwidth allowance.
I will raise a glass later this evening |

The World Whisky Day really didnt generate much interest within the online whisky community (if there is such a thing) but it did appear to get a lot of last minute interest from the media and some of the distilleries got behind it.
What put me off is it seemed like someone trying to make money selling tshirts without much effort to promote and educate people about whisky. I wonder how many tshirts they sold. |

| Totally agree Alastair, it did seem like a student trying to sell tshirts rather than promote and educate people about whisky, such a shame and a missed chance as somehow the media did pick up on it but people would have been very disappointed when they visited the world whisky day website. |

| I see on the world whisky day site that they did recieve a lot of traffic on the day probably generated by the likes of the bbc website mentioning it on there news homepage but the site crashed under the traffic and as said above basically there wasnt much on the site for visitors. |

| This could have been very good for Scotch whisky but as pointed out it seemed like a student with a money making idea. Such a waste but hopefully the idea gets developed and it does go on to promote whisky worldwide in the future including educating people about whisky. |
