|
|
Hello, I am new to the SM Whisky Forums, but no stranger to online selling in general, being a member of Ebay for over 8 years with flawless feedback both as a buyer and seller.
I am looking to sell a Sealed 70cl bottle of Port Ellen 1978, 2nd Release, numbered 1936.
This was a very generous, but unwanted gift, therefore I'm open to fair offers for a fairly quick sale. If anyone is interested, please PM me, for my email address and for photographs etc. I've taken several close-up photos of the labels, the seal etc.
Many Thanks,
Steve

A couple of guys have emailed me and asked about condition of the bottle, so I've added a few more photos to show how nice is it. Both the seal, and the front/rear labels are in lovely condition. However, there is no box.

Well, thats why I'm asking £101 less than the end price of that completed Ebay auction Plus mine's an earlier release
Really no need for you to have even replied to my thread, since you've been telling me in PM's since I joined that its got little value and it was only worth someone buying to open & drink. No offence, but, if you've no interest...why even post a comment like that. |

In my opinion and other collectors a bottle like this you need the box! no box knocks off alot of value in a collectors point of view! if any once was to buy it it would be to drink!
Also ebay is a hit or a miss some times bottles sell for loads some time not as much!
Plus i bet the ones on ebay all had box's! as for being an earlier release the price difference does not vary that much between a 2nd and a 6th less than £50 of a difference sometimes i have saw them selling for!
And threads here are for every one to reply to!
Did not meen anything by it only said the reason a hadnt bought yet was no box!
(as would buy to drink but to expensive for a drinking whisky in my budget)
EVERY ONE IS ENTITLED TO THERE OWN OPINIONS!! |

Thats true, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
I didnt realise you was such an expert as when you first contacted me to try sound me to if I was clueless (which I largely am about Whisky), you said you had no idea whatsoever to its value. You also asked me if I knew anything about its valued, which I interpreted as you trying to hopefully screw me one.
Because you then told me it wasnt worth much due to not having a box (i was told otherwise, but hey, I dont know...). I think you said it was pretty worthless, was your words.
I said I'd had 2 offers from 2 dealers and you asked how much -you then replied that dealer offers were bad. But then offered precisely the same yourself. I'm sure if I'dve quoted what they offered as less...so would you.
I know you based your offer on you seeing one end on Ebay cheap the evening before, but you'd conveniently "just" deleted from you watching page when I asked for the link, and couldnt re-find it. I couldnt either when I looked.
You're correct though, people are entitled to their own opinions. But I'll keep mine about you to myself. |

Dont know why you are making such a big deal over a little comment!
Contacted you because i was interested in buying, and yes when i 1st messaged you i did not know the values only the current shop ones that no one that drinks / collects whisky buys from.
After doing a little research and talking to a fellow collector (who has his own whisky shop) he told me that from the point of view of collecting you need a box.
But i still contacted you to offer you the same price but a little more than you where offered from the shops! as i would like to drink the bottle with fellow enthusiasts.
And as for making any offers i base them on current auction prices!
as for ebay it is not hard to find out the past prices -
Port ellen 2nd with box - 27th feb - £255.76
Port ellen 8th with box - 25th feb - £221.55
Port ellen 8th with box - 22th feb - £230
Port ellen 2nd with box - 21st feb - £180
Port ellen 3rd with box - 20th feb - £265
Port ellen 2nd with box - 18th feb - £272
Port ellen 7th with box - 13th feb - £130
At mctears 2nd & 3rd both with box's in november - £340 for 2!
one on offer next week at mctears £80 - £120 |

| What some people pay sometimes on ebay is not always a true indication of a bottles value, i would take what a bottle sells for in Mctears as more a true indication of value for a bottle in a private sale or auction. |
