Hi
I have found myself been the owner of an antique Irish Whiskey mirror. It is a MC Connells Estd 1776.The text on the mirror reads Mc Mconnell's. Estd 1776. Trade mark. Old irish whisky. Cromac distillery Belfast. Pot stills only. And is signed W.W Cleland.LTD Blelfast.I am trying to find out roughly how much these are selling for and would also like to know how many were made or how many still remain to this day.NOTE: The spelling mistake in the signature of the word Belfast spelt Blelfast. So I dont know if this makes it a rare collectors item.I will get the measurements of it shortly but it aproxx 30 inches high and about 70 inches wide so it is quite large and very heavy.
These things are always difficult to price and really you are best contacting a auction house who specialises in whisky related products. I would suggest http://www.mctears.co.uk/ just visit ther website for more details.
All i can say is the Cromac distillery was located at 22 Corporation Street, Belfast, Northern Ireland. The distillery was thought to have been established in 1776 and closed in 1930. So if the mirror you have is genuine it is at least 77 years old.
I am a regular visitor to Belfast and even today you can find traces of the long forgotten Cromac distillery in street names such as Cromac Ave - Cromac place - Cromac park - Cromac park terrace - Cromac square - Cromac street.
