Hi,
I'm new to the forum. I live in the US, but will be in the UK for a couple of weeks in December.
Are there some bottlings that I should look to buy there that either aren't commonly available elsewhere or are more attractively priced?
Thanks. |

Hi fine137 and welcome to the forum.
It all depends what the whisky is for, is it to collect, an investment, to drink, is it for a gift, what price range are you looking at?
There will be quite a few bottles which you can buy here which you wont find in the US, if it is for yourself then let us know which whiskies you already enjoy and i am sure we can point you at some good whisky.

Welcome to the SMW forum fine137
As Mark says, if you give us some ideas to what you like we should be able to suggest something special to take home. Will you be visiting any distilleries in Scotland while you are in the UK, if so there are a few where you can hand bottle your own whisky straight from the barrel. |

| I would guess most single malts are more affordable than in the States, so it depends what you're looking for. If you want every-day drinking bottles, you can just pop into a big Tesco or Asda which often have great offers on the 'big' brands like Glenlivet, Glenmorangie, Talisker, Laphroaig etc. |

Good to be here.
Here are whiskys that I have really enjoyed
Oban 14 (I think)
Highland Park 18
Yamazaki 18
Clynelish 14 (I think)
Jura Superstition
I do not care for the heavily peated stuff, at least not yet.
I want scotch to drink not collect, but I don't mind paying for good stuff. |

I am not sure what you have access to or how much you pay in the US but t think you may enjoy Talisker, i find all of their bottlings consistently good
Talisker 10, 18, Distillers Edition and 57* North all excellent and wont break the bank.
Talisker 25 year old 2008 Special Release from Diageo. Or indeed any Talisker special release, there is usually 1 every year, they are very limited edition releases and all have been excellent so far. |

Pricing is pretty good in the U.S, but the selection (at least where I live) is not as good. For instance, I can't get anything but the Talisker 10.
And anything over 18 year is problematic. I would love a Highland Park 25 or a Bunnahabhain 25 for instance. |

| In that case, get yourself to a specialist whisky shop (The Whisky Exchange if you're in London, for example) and you'll find things you won't be able to find in the US, like the Highland Park and Bunnahabhain that you mentioned, as well as the excellent Talisker 18 if you're a Talisker fan. |

You might like to get hold of a Da Mhile it's a Limited edition of 240 bottles 46% Organic from Loch Lomond Distillery. Bottled in March 2011 Distilled July 2000 which is what the name means in Gaelic and it was bottled without being chill filtered. My other half bought me a bottle for my birthday and it was a very nice surprise.
Well worth the money. |
