WHISKY LOVERS UNITE!

At the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival

22 March 2007, Speyside: This May sees the biggest ever Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival (3-7 May) as more than 12,000 visitors are expected to descend upon the picturesque region.

This year, as well as offering visitors the chance to indulge themselves in all things whisky, the Festival will also be promoting the excellent local produce with farmers markets and a food fair. On May 3rd there will also be a lavish four course gourmet dinner, cooked by the winner of the Spirit of Speyside Chef of the Year competition. Dave Broom the well-known whisky expert and raconteur will give the main after dinner speech after an entertaining programme of music, song and dance from the Strathspey Fiddlers. Tickets cost £49.50 which includes the dinner and five malt whiskies.

The annual Whisky Festival also provides an opportunity to visit distilleries not usually open to the public, meet with the experts behind the labels and take part in a variety of master classes. For the first time, visitors will have the chance to sample and judge the six finalists in the 2007 Speyside Whisky Awards. And with Diageo providing very affordable buses to ferry visitors around the area no-one needs to miss out on the fun:or that wee dram!

Evening entertainment is provided by the vibrant sounds of Wolfstone's New Highland Music concert in Elgin on Saturday 5 May and Donnie Munroe of Scottish band Runrig, in Aveimore on Sunday night. There are also a variety of dinners and ceilidhs on offer, as well as welcoming pubs to enjoy a more casual night of music and fun.

Taking advantage of the new Diageo bus routes, the Macdonald Four Seasons Hotel in Aviemore is offering a special three-night package throughout the Festival. Prices start from £180 per person and include breakfast and dinner. To book call 0845 608 3734

Hi John, William,
Being instrumental in the setting up of the Spring Festival, I can say that this was the greatest ever. We aim to go even further next year, although we here in Dufftown had over 50 events which were nearly all fully booked. The whisky Fair in the Memorial Hall was well attended with over 500 visitors over the day & half that it was open. Surprised
Now we are looking forward to the Autumn Festival in 12 days time. Very Happy
Slainte Rene
