I've been on 15-20 distillery tours and Jura is by far the worst, which is a great shame as the (older) whisky is very good and the island is magnificent. The guides don't seem especially enthusiastic, not especially knowledgable apart from the basics and speak too quietly. The distillery is lovely and I'd definately recommend a visit to Jura, but just don't expect a brilliant tour. Mind you, it is free, but having made the not inconsiderable effort to actually get there I'd rather pay a few quid and have a much better tour.
For good 'standard' tours visit Kilchoman, Bruichladdich, Bladnoch, Benromach. It's no coincedence that all these are small independant distilleries. For excellent 'Managers/VIP tours' you can't do much better than Aberlour,Balvenie and Bunnahabhain. |
