Diageo has just announced a major £3.5 million investment at Caol Ila distillery.
The investment will pay for the expanding and upgrading its Caol Ila distillery. The extension of the distillery will see two new 62,000 litre washbacks installed in addition to the eight which are already onsite. Key equipment will also be upgraded, including the replacement of the distillery's mash tun.
The distillery (though not the shop) will be closed to visitors for six months from June 2011, so if you are planning any visits to Islay this summer bare this in mind.
