I meant to post about this yesterday.

One of the worlds oldest single malt whiskies was unveiled yesterday at a 1940s themed ceremony at Edinburgh Castle. The Glenlivet 70 year old from family owned whisky specialist, Gordon & MacPhail.

The Glenlivet 70 Years Old was matured in a First Fill Sherry Butt, and bottled at cask strength (45.9% ABV). Only 100 70cl bottles and 175 20cl bottles will be released in 2011.

The 70cl decanter has a recommended retail price in the UK of £13,000 and the 20cl version has a recommended retail price in the UK of £3,200. It is the second in a series of extremely rare malt whiskies to be released by Gordon & MacPhail under its "Generations' brand. Mortlach 70 Years Old was the first release in the series.

I think i will try the mini before getting the 70cl bottle. Smile

Seriously I would have thought the ABV would have dropped well under 40% after 70 years in the cask but this was bottled at 45.9% abv

That is a good idea Archer, you dont want to buy the full size bottle then find out you you prefer the Glenlivet 12 year old Laughing

Surely it must have been put in the cask at a very high ABV for it to still be 45.9%
