You may already recognise the Glenmorangie Finealta as it is not a new release, it was released in August 2010 exclusively in travel retail or duty free as we used to know it. It has now (Jan 2011) gone on general release so I thought I would give it a mention here.
The Glenmorangie Finealta is the second release in Glenmorangie's Private Edition range. You may recall the first release in the range, the excellent and very popular Glenmorangie Sonnalta PX.
A very very lightly peated whisky with all the usual subtle complexities of Glenmorangie with a bit of cherry brandy thrown in there, where did that come from. Very enjoyable.

The Sonnalta was an excellent big oaky, rich, sweet sherried whiisky which has been finished in casks formerly containing Pedro Ximenez and i would highly recommend if you are a sherried whisky lover. The Fineatla is a marrying whiskies of different ages and from American Oak and Oloroso Sherry Oak casks but not at all as sherried as the Sonnalta. |

The Glenmorangie Finealta is the second release in the Glenmorangie Private Edition range and not a replacement for the Sonnalta PX. The range was originally called Private Collection but Glenmorangie have now changed the name to Glenmorangie Private Edition. |

| I wouldnt think the Sonnalta PX is discontinued. Didnt Jim Murray award it Best Scotch New Brand in the 2010 Whisky Bible, would he have given a new brand award to a limited edition release. |

| No sign of the Sonnalta PX being discontued on the Glenmorangie website. What i did notice on their site was when you go into the "Our Whiskies" section oof the site Astar, Sonnalta PX and Finealta are all shown as part of the Private Edition range so it looks like the Glenmorangie marketing team has decided put all 3 whiskies together as a range but no hint of any of them being limited releases |
