|

Auchentoshan the triple distilled single malt whisky from Glasgow has launched two limited edition expressions for the single malt enthusiast, the Auchentoshan 1977 and Auchentoshan 1998. Well they launched them at the end of last year and i am only posting about them now.
Both the Auchentoshan 1977 (limited to 240 bottles) and Auchentoshan 1998 (limited to 6000 bottles) are sherry cask matured. The 1998 expression was matured in Fino Sherry casks and the 1977 was matured in the European Oak Olorosso Sherry casks for 32 years.
More about them including tasting notes here:

| Everywhere i have looked at seems to say the Auchentoshan 1978 was 480 bottles. Odd how Auchentoshan has got the figure wrong. I wouldnt be pleased buying from them thinking it was 288 then finding it was 480. Either way it hasnt sold out in over a year as i think it was released September 2009. |

I cant help you John but if you are getting one The Whisky Exchange is the cheapest by far at £321.70
the RRP is £370 and the Whisky Shop are asking £389.99 for it , the Whisky Shop never surprises me now, not a shop i would buy from |

John dont know if this will help but in the Whisky Bible 2011 Jim Murray scores the Auchentoshan 1978 at 96/100, he also states that it is 480 and he cant praise it highly enough.
| Quote: | Jim Murray 2011 Whisky Bible:
"if there was a Lowlander of the year, this'd probably wipe the floor with the rest. It's as though someone was in a warehouse, stumbled across this gem and protected it with his life to ensure it was not lost in some blend, or other. Whoever is responsible should be given a gold medal, or a Dumbarton season ticket." |
Not sure about the Dumbarton season ticket being much of a reward
Jim has given this one a lot of space in the bible as there is quite a long tasting note also so i think he was very impressed with this and his 96 score places it probably in his top 50 whiskies out of 4500 in in the book. |

| Investment wise i am not sure if Auchentoshan would be as good a investment as a Bowmore. With a view to drinking the Auchentoshan, going by Jim Murrays review you will find few lowlanders better than the Auchentoshan 1978 whether the sherried 1977 will receive such high praise remains to be seen. |
