Hi all
I know you must get this a lot, but i am looking for some advice on what is a good 30 year old whisky to buy as a gift. I do enjoy the odd malt whisky myself once and a while but i was hoping you could give me some ideas to what is a particularly good 30 year old whisky as i havent had any whisky as old as thiss myself. It is for a 30th birthday gift.
Any advice is very much appreciated.

Hi Katie
You dont say whether the person you are buying for has a particular preference of a certain style of whisky. Anyway one quality 30 year old whisky IMO is the Glenfiddich 30, incidentally the new Glenfiddich 30 year old released in 2010 comes in a smart wooden box which looks great when given as a gift, i was looking at it myself in The Whisky Exchange shop as they have it for £210.
Others i would recommend are the Glenfarlclas 30 which is a bit cheaper, usually around £120. Highland Park 30 which is around £190 |

Hi Katie
There are some excellent 30 year old whiskies available, a few of which i would highly recommend are:
Brora 30 Year Old
Talisker 30 Year Old
Balvenie 30 Year Old
Laphroaig 30 Year Old |

It might be worth finding out what style of whisky the intended recipient likes first. For example, if they love Islay, get a Laphroiag 30 yr old, Speyside leaves you Balvenie, Glenfiddich etc etc, and at least gives you a more focused decision to make.
I recently tried a 25 year old Talisker bottled from the golden jubile, and it was simply amazing. Shame I could only afford a shot or two! _________________ Rob Hughes

| Thanks for your replies, i know he has has a wide range of taste and doesnt stick to any particular style or distillery. He likes to try different styles of whiskies and i was hoping for a recommendation for a 30 year old which is considered particularly good which he wouldnt normally buy for himself. |

| The Brora 30 year old 2009 bottling was very good indeed, IMO amongst the best of the Brora 30 year old so far. You may be interested in the Brora 30 2010 special release shown here www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/brora30yearold2010.htm although i dont think it is the shops yet but i would guess it will be available to buy pretty soon. The 2010 bottle may be more appropriate if the gift is to mark a birthday or anniversary. I obviously havent tasted the 2010 yet but so far all the Brora 30 special releases have been excellent. |
