hi there hope you are all well I came across this bottle I bought my dad in 1999 but got back when he passed away 6 years ago and have decided to sell this to someone who will savour it like my dad so i was hoping you guys could help me out with what to realistically get for it , it is in very good cosmetic condition and comes with the wooden presentation box and even the original straw type packaging cheers ross

Was it bottled by the distillery or an independent bottler and does it say on the bottle when it was bottled or what age the whisky is. What is the % ABV of the whisky. If you have a pic you can post that may be helpful also.

To post a photo you need to first upload your photo to a photo hosting service, a good free service is http://photobucket.com/ you then need to link to your photo using the "Img" you will find it above the text box when you are posting or editing a post.

If you have all the details off your bottle that would be good to identify it and perhaps give our opinion for a possible value of it. Just type everything it says on the bottle.

hey big mac thanks for that ive put it on ebay just to see if there is any interest and ive put it on for probably too much I think I have got the right bottle though it is a Bunnahabhain vintage reserve 1968 The Family Silver Distilled and bottled by Highland Distillers PLC Perth Scotland This is what it says on the islay website

Bottlings
Here are the most important bottlings of Bunnahabhain:
Bunnahabhain 12yo 43% ABV.
Bunnahabhain Auld Acquantaince Hogmanay Edition, 1968 43.8% ABV.
Bunnahabhain 1968, The Family Silver, 40% ABV. Hard to find.
Bunnahabhain 1966, Cask No 4379, 46.1% ABV.

I just wanted to know a realistic price to put it out at

cheers ross

This is very hard to find now, last i saw a botle of this for sale in a shop was about a year ago for £200. I would have thought the value would have went up a little since then, my guesstimate would be around £300 you would expect to pay for a bottle of this on a shop, just my opinion i may be wrong.

I would recommend you contact one of the whisky specialist auctioneers such as Mctears in Glasgow or Bonhams in Edinburgh. They should give you a free valuation with a view to selling your bottle. You can contact them by email via their websites, if you give them the full details and pictures you may get a better response.

JAB that would tie in with Ackers estimate i would say as his estimate was for a shop price which is often around double what you would pay at auction or in a privete sale i think. But then again sometimes auctions fetch close to the shop price just depends on the whisky and thhe bidders i suppose.
